ATan - arctangent (inverse tangent)

Online calculator for calculating the angle to the tangent

The calculator on this page calculates the inverse tangent for real numbers. Trigonometric functions for complex numbers can be found in the complex numbers section.

To calculate, enter the value of the tangent to which the angle should be calculated and click on the Calculate button. The unit of measurement for the result can be switched between degrees and radians

Description

Arkustangens (also known as arctan or tan⁻¹) is a mathematical function that serves as the inverse function of the tangent. It helps find the angle whose tangent corresponds to a given number. The formula for the arkustangens function is:

\(\text{Arkustangens}(x) = \tan^{-1}(x) \)

For any value of \(x\), the arkustangens function returns the angle, typically measured in radians or degrees.

The range of the arkustangens is \(-\frac{\pi}{2} < f(x) < \frac{\pi}{2}\)

The arkustangens function is closely related to the tangent function and plays a significant role in mathematics, especially in complex function theory and trigonometry. It is one of the core functions in the class of arcus functions, along with the arccosine and arcsine functions.
