ACot - Arccotangent (inverse cotangent).

Online calculator for calculating the angle to the cotangent

The calculator on this page calculates the inverse cotangent for real numbers. Trigonometric functions for complex numbers can be found in the complex numbers section.

To calculate, enter the value of the cotangent to which the angle should be calculated and click on the Calculate button. The unit of measurement for the result can be switched between degrees and radians.

Description

The inverse cotangent function, denoted arccot, acot or cot⁻¹, is the inverse of the cotangent function. It is used to calculate the angle to its cotangent value.

Definition

In a right triangle is the tangent of an angle α the length ratio of opposite side to side and the cotangent is the length ratio of side to side:

\(\displaystyle \tan\alpha =\frac{opposite}{adjacent}=\frac{a}{b}=\frac{\sin\alpha}{\cos\alpha}\)

\(\displaystyle \cot\alpha =\frac{Adjacent}{Opposite}=\frac{b}{a}=\frac{\cos\alpha}{\sin\alpha}\)

It follows:

\(\displaystyle \cot\alpha =\frac{1}{\tan\alpha}=\frac{\csc\alpha}{\sec\alpha}\)

\(\displaystyle \tan\alpha =\frac{1}{\cot\alpha}=\frac{\sec\alpha}{\csc\alpha}\)

The inverse cotangent function is used in mathematics, engineering, physics and geometry, to find angles based on trigonometric ratios.
